Free-wheeling hub

DRIVE February 1, 2006
Source
The freewheel hub, especially for a bicycle wheel, has a hub sleeve for the wheel spokes holding a sleeve (11) pressed into it. The hub also contains a drive sleeve, which holds a rim gear, and bearings (26,28). The freewheel mechanism (10) is between the two sleeves, with rollers (21) in a cage (22) between the sleeves and teeth on the drive sleeve. The rollers are driven only when drive is exerted in one direction between the hub and drive sleeves.
