A frame(10) surrounds an opening(12) in which a flat piece of material(14) is held.. The edge area(18) of the flat material is embedded in the frame when the latter is molded onto it and connects both parts together. A frame(10) is injection molded onto the edge area(18) of a flat material section(14). The edge area may extend through the frame width so that the cut edge(32) of the material projects beyond the outer face of the frame, preferably flush with the outer face(30) of the frame. Alternatively the edge area and cut edge are completely embedded in the frame so that the cut edge is not visible. Flat material can be rigid or flexible and is held under tension in the material plane inside the frame. A supporting outer frame may be molded onto the outside of the base frame so that it covers the exposed cut edge of the flat material. Outer frames form a positive fit around the base frame and can be attached with fasteners, by material connection, e.g. bonding or by direct injection molding onto the base frame. Edge area may be stiffened. An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing the screen in which a frame(10) is molded onto an edge area(18) of a flat screen material(14).
