The system has a control unit (4) positioning an environment detection unit (DETENV), and sensors (1, 2, 3) providing angle information such as yaw angle, roll angle, and/or pitch angle of the unit (DETENV) to the unit (4). The unit (4) has a correction unit (5) correcting the yaw, roll and/or pitch angles, and a modification unit (MODPOS) modifying positioning of the unit (DETENV) from the correction of the angles. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling positioning of an environment detection unit embarked aboard a motor vehicle.
