Electrochemical alkaline generator with improved service life

Battery has anode, cathode, separator between the electrodes, and an electrolyte e.g. concentrated aqueous alkaline solution. A barium and/or strontium based compound e.g. barium hydroxide and strontium hydroxide, is added in the generator above or below an electrochemical bundle in the separator, and in the cathode.
