Brake assistant for motor vehicles

The assistant has a controller to control braking force, and an evaluation device (14) to receive signal of an environment sensor system (10). The device has a release function (24) to initiate emergency braking depending on a traffic condition. The release function is activated by a brake operated by a driver, where braking command of the driver is controlled and the braking is actuated, when a risk of collision is recognized.
