The method involves introducing an exhaust gas (A) and a fresh gas (F) into a combustion chamber (4) during two periods, respectively, where the periods are different from each other. The chamber has a charge lamination with an inert gas region enclosing the exhaust gas and an additional region. The exhaust gas and the fresh gas maintains a swirl about a rotational axis during introduction of the gases into the chamber. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an internal combustion engine with charge lamination in a combustion chamber (B) a computer program for a control device of the internal combustion engine with charge lamination in the combustion chamber.
