Roadway evaluation for overtaking manoeuvres

The system has a detection unit for detecting position and direction of travel of a vehicle, and a storing unit for storing a digital road map. An evaluation unit evaluates a digital road map depending upon the position and direction of travel of the vehicle. An output unit outputs information, and the evaluation unit extracts special items of the information concerning a section of road lying ahead from the road map.
