Operating method for Ottomotor with valve overlap
DRIVE
November 2, 2005
The operating method for a charged Otto engine involves the opening of an exhaust valve (3) to discharge exhaust gas from the combustion chamber (1), and opening an inlet valve (2) to admit precompressed fresh air for a subsequent combustion of fuel in the combustion chamber. A phase takes place in which the inlet valve and exhaust valve are opened at the same time in order to allow precompressed fresh air to flow through the combustion chamber into the exhaust system (6,7) without combustion of fuel.
