Runflat tire system and support ring therefor

A runflat tire system (1) comprises:a pneumatic tire (2);a wheel rim (3) on which the pneumatic tire is mounted; anda support ring (5) made of elastic material and disposed in a cavity (4) surrounded by an inner surface of the rim and an inner surface of the tire mounted thereon, whereinthe support ring comprises an annular body (7) extending in a circumferential direction of the tire and provided with a plurality of hollows (6) opening at the cavity, andat least one noise dumper (9) made of sponge material having apparent density of 0.1 g/cm3 or less and disposed in the hollow such that the noise dumper does not protrude into the cavity from an inlet surface of the hollow.
