Two speed all wheel drive system

A two speed drive system for an all wheel drive vehicle (12) includes a double planetary gear front differential (54) and a power take-off unit (20) transferring drive torque to a front wheel set (28) and a rear wheel set (48) of the vehicle. A rear differential (42a) connects the power take-off unit (20) and the rear wheel set (48) providing the drive torque to the rear wheel set. A two speed drive unit (40) is positioned between the power take-off (20) unit and the rear differential. The drive unit shifts between a high range drive operation and a low range drive operation. The drive unit may be mounted directly to either the power take-off unit or the rear differential (42a).
