The device comprises a generator which includes an excitation winding and a rectifier system, and which is connected over two connections (B+, B-) with a voltage regulator. The rectified, regulated generator voltage is supplied to one of the connections (B+), which serves for the supply of an on-board network, and the other connection (B-) lies on ground. The first connection of the generator (10) is in contact with the excitation winding (E), and the current flow (IE) through the excitation winding is controlled by a switching device (T). The switching device is supplied with a signal (US) which indicates the beginning of a turn of the generator, and which triggers the current flow through the excitation winding through the switching device. The switching device is preferably a transistor, especially the regulator transistor available in the voltage regulator (13).
