In a power unit (2) for a saddle-ride type vehicle, including an internal combustion engine (6) and a transmission (7) and supported by a saddle-ride type vehicle body having a front wheel (10) in a front portion thereof, an oil cooler (96) is to be installed without interference with other parts such as, for example, an exhaust pipe and the front wheel (10). Further, the distance between a water pump (100) and the oil cooler (96) is to be made shorter to shorten the length of a cooling water pipe. The power unit (2) includes a crank shaft (30), an output shaft (80) disposed in a rear portion of the power unit (2) to output torque produced by the crank shaft (30) to the exterior through a transmission (7), a water pump (100) adapted to be rotated with the torque transferred thereto from the crank shaft (30), and an oil cooler (96) mounted on a rear surface of the power unit (2) in a vehicle advancing direction below the output shaft (80) and at a position lower than the crank shaft (30).
