An occupant protection system 10 includes an airbag 12 disposed on S-springs 2 and inflatable to push a seat cushion upward while being supported from below by the S-springs 2, and a gas generator 14 for inflating the airbag 12. The airbag 12 extends along the lateral width of the seat, of which the left and right ends are fixed to left and right side frames 1a and 1b with bolts 16, respectively. The airbag 12 is normally disposed on the S-springs 2 in an uninflated state and in a slightly loose state lengthwise. As the seat cushion and the S-springs 2 which support it are moved downward as an occupant sits in the seat cushion, also the airbag 12 can be moved (deformed).",
