The blind (10), which can be deployed or retracted, is made from one piece of a supple material that is self-supporting when deployed. The material can be compressible, such as an open-cell foam and can be compressed by a fixed guide bar (13) or between rollers as or just before it is wound on to its roller tube (12), or it can be made from an incompressible material. In the deployed state it can be of even thickness or have two or more lengthwise zones of different thicknesses that are regularly alternating.
