An ignition assembly (10) provides a current to a spark plug (38) to combust fuel in a cylinder (44) of an internal combustion engine (13). The ignition coil assembly (10) includes a primary winding (22) defining a central axis (21). A secondary winding (24) is wrapped about the primary winding (22) coaxial with the central axis (21). The ignition coil assembly (10) also includes a central core (20) extending through the primary winding (22) coaxial with the central axis (21). The central core (20) includes a plurality of core components (46) each having a single exterior surface (48) that is continuous. In addition, each of the single exterior surfaces (48) extends through an arcuate path.
