  "textContent": "A passenger protection system (1) includes acceleration sensors (2a, 2b) as well as a passenger protection ECU (3). At least one acceleration sensor (2a) is provided on one of the width-direction sides of the vehicle and at least one accelerator sensor (2b) is provided on the other width-direction side of the vehicle. Based on signals generated by the acceleration sensors (2a, 2b) the passenger protection ECU (3) determines occurrence of a collision, and drives passenger protection apparatus (8a, 8b) accordingly. In the event of a collision, the passenger protection ECU (3) performs an AND operation on a signal from the acceleration sensor (2a) on the colliding one of the width-direction sides of the vehicle, and a signal from the acceleration sensor (2b) on the other width-direction side not experiencing the collision, to drive the passenger protection apparatus 8a (or the passenger protection apparatus 8b).",
