System and method to produce reformate

Fuel (14), air (16) and anode exhaust gas (18) from a fuel cell stack are fed to a reformer (12). Devices (20) including a source (22) of ignition and/or a catalytic converter (24) partially oxidize the anode exhaust gas before feeding it to the reformer. These devices can carry out oxidation with air supplied for generating a reformat (10). An independent claim is also included for a method for generating a reformat to be fed to a fuel cell stack.
