A safety support for an interior mirror of a vehicle, comprising a rigid bearing plate (7) of a mirror (1) and a frame (3). The bearing plate has two major surfaces, a frontal surface, intended for receiving the mirror (1), and another back surface, which can bear reinforcement rings (11). The bearing plate (7) has means for being fixed to the frame (3) such that the bearing plate (7) with the mirror does not separate from the frame (3) during operational use, but does separate from the frame (3) when a force exceeding a certain threshold is exerted on the frontal surface of the bearing plate (7). These fixing means allow that if a force is exerted on the mirror that could break it, the bearing plate (7) and the mirror (1) solidly fixed to the former can separate from the frame (3) and move in a first direction (10) with regard to the frame (3). There can also be an electric circuit (16) integrated on the bearing plate (7). The invention also refers to an assembly method for assembling this support.
