An inseparable assembly includes a body (80) having a first surface (82) and a second surface (88). The body (80) includes an oxide-based ceramic matrix composite material having a first predetermined ductility. The assembly further includes a crack (128) extending through the body (80) between the first surface (82) and the second surface (88), and a patch (150) bonded to at least one of the first surface (82) and the second surface (88) overlapping at least a portion of an edge of the crack (128). The patch (150) includes a second material having a second predetermined ductility that is greater than the first ductility.
