I.C. engine comprises a control unit with an air control element (14) which partially or completely closes cooling elements (22) of a charge cooler so that the effective cooling surface is reduced depending on the operating parameters. Preferred Features: The air control element is arranged in an air collecting housing (13) of the charge cooler. The air control element is formed as a flap. Charging air is cooled in the cooler using an air stream.
