Spark-ignition direct-injection engine
DRIVE
March 23, 2005
A spark-ignition direct-injection engine in which a fuel injector (18) injects fuel toward areas surrounding a spark plug (16) includes an ECU (50) serving as a fuel injection timing controller which sets a fuel injection point in a compression stroke when the engine is run by stratified charge combustion and in an intake stroke when the engine is run by homogeneous charge combustion. The fuel injector (18) has an electrode bottom-side spray hole of which axis is directed to an area immediately on the underside of an electrode of the spark plug (16) and a piston-side spray hole of which axis is directed to an area further on the underside of the area to which the axis of the electrode bottom-side spray hole is directed. The angle between the axes of the electrode bottom-side spray hole and the piston-side spray hole is larger than the spray angle of the fuel ejected from each of the two spray holes when the engine is run by the stratified charge combustion.
