Seatbelt retractor

The application relates to a seatbelt retractor comprising a motor (8), a spool (4), a power transmission route (10-18) between the motor (8) and the spool (4), a switching mechanism (21-23) for connecting and disconnecting the power transmission route (10-18) and a ratchet mechanism (14,24-28) having a pawl (27) arranged to be engageable with ratchet teeth (14b) of a ratchet gear (14) connected to the spool (4). The ratchet mechanism comprises an electric driving device (27), preferably a solenoid, for driving the pawl (27) in order to engage or disengage the ratchet teeth (14b).
