The procedure for attaching a motor vehicle's plastic trim body or fender component (12) to the surface of an associated plastic component (10) such as an ultrasonic sensor with an area having a thin section, preferably 1 - 3 mm, consists of creating small weld zones (22) through holes in the back of the associated component. The holes are formed by tangential vibrations (V2) created at a distance from the associated component which are then transformed into perpendicular vibrations (V1) to weld the two components together. The vibrations are produced by a sonotrode (16) with an excitation end (18) and two vibrating tips (20) in the shape of a tuning fork with bits (14) on their ends.",
