The cylinder head of an internal combustion engine is medium-cooled, each cylinder having an annular cooling medium chamber encompassing the cylinder, and cooling medium channels (6a,6b). The cylinder head in the direction from the combustion chamber plate (2) to an upper cylinder head cover side (5) is constructed so that in the preponderant extent area lying in between them the casting moulds determining the shape of the cylinder head are component parts of the mould cavity and mould flask.
