Solid electrolyte fuel cell is operated with a fuel containing hydrogen and the method involves removing carbon dioxide form the anode output gas flow, which contains at least hydrogen and carbon dioxide, using liquefaction. The residual gas is oxidized after liquefaction of the carbon dioxide. The residual gas is substantially or completely oxidized in a subsequent electrochemical combustion with oxygen. An independent claim is also included for: (a) a device for implementing the inventive method.
