Method for updating a digital map

At least one element subset of the digital map can be preset to be updated by transmitting data from a central office. The central office automatically selects an additional element subset in a second digital map so that after update, the digital map is consistent. When the data are received at the user side, a check is made to determine if they relate to a preset element subset, and in which case they are made available to the digital maps. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for performing the method.
