A foamed edge(14) is molded around the underside of a glass plate(12). An undercut on the outer side(20) of the foamed edge between the latter and the glass plate extends not less than 3mm into the foam depth. Maximum undercut depth is not > 15mm. The undercut may be formed by an adhesive strip(18), adhered to the underside of the glass plate and remaining there after foaming. The foamed edge(14) and undercut extend around the periphery of the glass plate(12). Primer is applied to the underside of the glass plate in the area of the foamed edge except in the strip area. A thin sheet reinforcing strip(16) is incorporated into the foamed edge. The undercut may also be formed by a tool slide, a tool part or inserts which are removed from the finished molding. An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing a cover panel with a glass window for an opening in a vehicle roof in which an undercut is molded in the foamed edge during its molding stage.
