"textContent": "A pneumatic servo for operating a switching valve (18, 19), e.g. for a turbocharger in an IC engine, has a sealed housing divided by a flexible membrane into an upper chamber (4c) and a lower chamber (6c). A thrust rod (14c) is attached to the membrane and passes out of the lower chamber via a sliding seal (22a). A spring (3c) in the lower chamber holds the thrust rod in the raised position. The thrust rod is drive by varying the pressures either side of the membrane between atmosphere and a negative value. This provides a fast response valve action with a positive switching mode.",
