The oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is made almost zero and the exhaust gas temperature is raised. An air supply system is provided for supplying air between the NOx catalyst and the DPF, during deactivated catalyst reactivation treatment due to sulfur poisoning of the NOx catalyst. An independent claim is also included for the control of a NOx purification system by supplying air between the NOx catalyst and the DPF.",
