The unit has an elastic rod (19) comprising a central branch (24) and two lateral branches (25A, 25B) for engaging with locking bases of an airbag module. The central branch formed by a median section (26) receives a tool (28). The rod is deformed to disengage the lateral branches from the bases to remove the airbag module from a frame (2), when a translation movement is applied to the central branch by the tool. An independent claim is also included for a steering wheel.
