A method for the removal of a contaminant from a hydraulic system comprising carrying a portable container of hydraulic fluid 26 and holding chamber 1 to a hydraulic system 17, transferring a portion of the hydraulic fluid from the container 26 to the holding chamber 1 and introducing said transferred portion into the hydraulic system 17 from the chamber 1.
