An electrochemical cell subassembly (55) for use within a fuel cell for the generation of electricity. The electrochemical cells subassembly (55) comprises at least one component in the form of a cell frame (58, 64) with the or each cell frame (58, 64) being adhesively bonded to an adjacent component. The bonding can be accomplished using either polymeric bonds (i.e. adhesives) where polymer and/or metal components are involved are mettalurgical bonds (i.e. solder) where metal components are involved. The bonding of the electrochemical cell subassembly (55) provides a tightly sealed cell subassembly, with a low electrical resistance between components of the cell subassembly.
