Variable valve type internal combustion engine and control method thereof

The engine (100) has an intake valve opening and shutting an intake port. A variable valve gear sets a lift amount and an open valve period of the intake valve. A control unit in which the lift amount and the open valve period of the intake valve are set independently. An operation mode of the intake valve in a cylinder is set respectively and independently according to the operating state of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a variable valve type internal combustion engine in which the intake airflow is controlled with a set of intake valves.
