The piston for an internal combustion engine has at least in areas a coating of ductile material with a thickness of 200 microns or less. The coating consists of a technically high-grade aluminum, and the coating may be applied galvanically. The piston has a combustion chamber bowl with its edge coated. An independent claim is included for a method for the manufacture of a piston for an internal combustion engine.
