Inflation device for a vehicle passenger restraint system

The device has a housing (12) with ignitor (14) and cord-like fuel string (24). The housing has at least one relief aperture (20a,b), which is not associated with the ignitor or the fuel string. The housing encloses an ignitor chamber (13), which after ignition is in fluid connection with an ambient area (21) outside the housing via one of the apertures. The inflation device has a pyrotechnic gas generator with loose fuel tablets, and this is connected to the ignitor after its activation.
