Transfer case with two planetary gear sets having a common carrier

A common carrier assembly (114) that is particularly adapted for use in supporting planetary gear sets (80, 82) used in a four-wheel drive vehicle transfer case (16). The common carrier (114) includes a drive plate (140), a differential plate (144), and a reduction plate (142). The drive plate (140) positioned between the reduction planetary gear set (80) and the differential planetary gear set (82). The drive plate (140) selectively engages a clutch (118, 180) that operates to position the reduction gear set (80) in various operation modes.
