Isolated resonator gyroscope with a drive and sense plate
DRIVE
August 25, 2004
The present invention discloses a resonator gyroscope comprising a vibrationally isolated resonator (124) including a proof mass (102), a counterbalancing plate (104) having an extensive planar region, and one or more flexures (108) interconnecting the proof mass (102) and counterbalancing plate (104). A baseplate (106) is affixed to the resonator by the one or more flexures (108) and sense and drive electrodes (120) are affixed to the baseplate (106) proximate to the extensive planar region of the counterbalancing plate (104) for exciting the resonator and sensing movement of the gyroscope. The isolated resonator (124) transfers substantially no net momentum to the baseplate when the resonator is excited.
