Aerogel high temperature seal and fuel cell system

The seal has an annular shape aerogel gasket (130) disposed between a fuel cell housing and a solid oxide fuel cell of a high temperature fuel cell system (100). An aerogel sheet is cut to form gaskets by a water jet. A fuel supply (106) provides fuel to the fuel cell that includes an anode, a cathode and an electrolyte. An oxygen supply (108) provides oxygen to the fuel cell. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a fuel cell system including high temperature seal (b) a method of using a high temperature seal.
