Refrigeration system and method for operating a refrigeration system

A solenoid valve 5 and a check valve 7 are arranged at an inlet and an outlet of the evaporator 6. When system operation is to be stopped, the solenoid valve 5 is closed while the compressor 1 continues to operate for a predetermined time to suck out refrigerant from the evaporator 6 to downstream of the check valve 7. When the evaporator 6 or piping arranged in the vehicle compartment should be damaged, no significant amount of refrigerant flows out of the evaporator 6 into the vehicle compartment where it would endanger the occupants.
