The i.c. engine comprises a pinion (22) having a central fixing hole (220) and several branches (221) connecting the hole to the line of peripheral teeth around which a timing belt is mounted. At least two branches of the pinion are drilled with a hole (222) and the face of the casing to which the pump is fixed comprises two tapped holes for fixing the pinion to the casing before dismantling the pump. Independent claims are included for an automobile comprising the engine and a method of replacing the injection pump.
