The device (7) for the locking of a height-adjustable steering spindle of a motor vehicle comprises a locking ring (8) and a locking bolt (11) which in the locked position engages in one of a number of slot-form recesses formed circumferentially in the locking ring. The base of the slot-form recess in the locking ring is located on a spherical surface, the middle point (13) of which lies upon the intersection point of the steering spindle axis (5) and pivot axis (6) of the steering spindle.
