The method entails estimating the amount of air drawn into a cylinder based on an intake manifold pressure. The value of an identification parameter is determined using an adaptive observer. The estimated amount of air drawn into the cylinder and the value of the identification parameter are multiplied to obtain a final estimated amount of air drawn into the cylinder. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for estimating an amount of drawn air of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine.
