The electrical energy generation unit has 2 IC engines (21,23) and 2 electrical generators (22,24), coupled together via an intermediate transmission (20) with several switched couplings (4,4',5,5'), operated via an electrical control to allow one or both IC engines to be coupled to one or both electrical generators.
