  "textContent": "A control system for an internal combustion engine (1) is provided which controls a fuel injection amount depending upon power requirement for the engine, and controls EGR amount adjusting means (12, 13) for adjusting an amount of exhaust gas recirculated from an exhaust passage (6) to an intake passage (2), based on the fuel injection amount. The control system includes clutch control means (15) for releasing and engaging a clutch mechanism (10) disposed between the engine and a transmission (9) upon shifting of the transmission, and torque control means (14) for reducing an engine output torque by temporarily reducing the fuel injection amount irrespective of the power requirement during shifting of the transmission. The control system further includes EGR control means (14) for controlling the EGR amount adjusting means based on the power requirement, instead of the fuel injection amount, during shifting of the transmission.",
