The ignition coil has a cylindrical primary coil body (1) provided with a primary winding (4), a cylindrical core (3) formed from stacked metal plates and a secondary coil body (2) provided with a secondary winding (5), enclosing the cylindrical core. The primary winding is arranged on the inside of the primary coil body and the inner cylindrical surface of the secondary coil body has a metallic coating (7), for reducing the field concentration at the metal plate edges of the core.
