Apparatus for the protection of legs of a car occupant

The device has cuff plates (2) arranged in a longitudinal direction of a vehicle and fitted to a central frame part in a leg area of the vehicle. A load distributor (3) is carried at free ends of the cuff plates which absorb impact energy of the legs of a vehicle occupant in an event of a frontal impact. The cuff plates are provided with stiffening fins.
