Cord-like seal for vehicle, process and apparatus for manufacturing it

The reinforcement forms a continuous strand comprising alternate sections of a non-metallic, soft elastic material(1) and a non-metallic, rigid material. Sections lie one behind another in the strand direction. Sections(1) of soft material have either a different or similar length to the sections(2) of the rigid material. Lengths of sections in one or both materials may vary along a strand. A further plastic(3) may partly or completely enclose the reinforcing strand. Strands can be either injection molded or extruded. Independent claims are included for: a) process equipment which includes two extruders each feeding an extrudate cutter alternately delivering soft and rigid sections to a common die; b) a process for manufacturing the seal in which sections of soft and rigid polymer material are arranged alternately behind one another.
