The control then determines the allocation of braking effort to front and rear wheels. The motor vehicle includes a processing unit (10) and a device for controlling the braking applied to the wheels. For each wheel there is a controllable actuator (11,12), and a range of sensors (18,21,24,25,27,28) detect the instantaneous state of the vehicle. The sensors detect the parking brake (18), gear lever selection (21), the brake pedal operation (24), the inclination of the vehicle (25) and the speed of the vehicle (27,28). An additional sensor (45) detects the instantaneous global value of the braking of the vehicle.
