Aluminum foil thickness is 10-100, preferably 20-30 microns and mean extension at break is 15-25%. The tank may comprise upper and lower premolded parts, which include openings, prefabricated inserts, in particular connectors, and holders for inserts. Premolded parts may be produced by injection molding in which the aluminum foil is placed in the molding tool before injection. Alternatively premolded parts are thermoformed from the plastic composite material, whose aluminum foil and at least one plastic film layer may be placed in the forming tool and pressed together at elevated temperature. Premolded parts are heat welded together to form a gas tight joint around the tank. An independent claim is included for a process for manufacturing the fuel tank in which a single or double sided coated aluminum foil is introduced into a plastic composite material which is then used to produce the fuel tank.",
