Method for the updating of route data

An off board road vehicle navigation system obtains data from a server that indicates relevant route bearings. When the journey is in progress the driver may access the server to receive news of any obstructions or road delays. The route can then be modified. In a further version the server may provide automatic updates at specified time intervals.
